Out of the box, Samsung’s Galaxy S7/S7 edge is a nice-looking phone. It’s easy enough to learn how to use, the screens look good, and the operations feel natural.

That doesn’t mean there isn’t anything that you might want to change. Maybe you want a different screen background. Maybe you don’t like the sounds of the notifications. Maybe you don’t like notifications at all.

Well, you’re in good luck. There are lots of ways you can personalize your new Galaxy S7 or S7 edge to make the phone better fit the way you like to use it.

Personalizing the Screen Background

One of the first things that many people personalize about their phones is the screen background. On the Galaxy S7, you can set different backgrounds for the Lock screen and the Home screens. You can choose from preselected wallpaper images, or use one of your own photos as the background.

Change the Lock Screen Wallpaper

The Lock screen is the screen that appears when you power on or unlock your phone. You can set the Lock screen to have its own background wallpaper, or to share the background of the Home screen.

  • circle-01.jpg Swipe down from the top of the screen to display the notification panel.

  • circle-02.jpg Tap Settings to display the Settings screen.

  • circle-03.jpg Tap to select the Personal tab.

  • circle-04.jpg Tap Wallpaper.

  • circle-05.jpg Tap the down arrow at the top of the screen and select Lock Screen.

  • circle-06.jpg Scroll through the available images and tap the one you want to use.

  • circle-07.jpg Tap Set as Wallpaper or…

  • circle-08.jpg To use a photograph as a background image, tap From Gallery. Your photo gallery opens.

  • circle-09.jpg Tap the photo you want to use.

  • circle-10.jpg Tap Done.

  • circle-11.jpg Tap Set as Wallpaper to approve the image you’ve chosen.

Change the Home Screen Wallpaper

You can similarly change the background image on your phone’s Home screens. (Actually, on both the Home and Apps screens.)

Change Your Phone’s Theme

If you want a more radical change to the way your phone looks, you can change the phone’s entire visual theme. A theme is a preset combination of background images, fonts, and icons that affect the look and feel of every system screen.

  • circle-01.jpg Swipe down from the top of the screen to display the notification panel.

  • circle-02.jpg Tap Settings to display the Settings screen.

  • circle-03.jpg Tap to select the Personal tab.

  • circle-04.jpg Tap Themes to display the My Themes page.

  • circle-05.jpg One or more themes may be present on your phone. (Some carriers preinstall themes; some don’t.) Tap to select one of these themes.

  • circle-06.jpg Additional themes are displayed in the Recommended Themes section. Some are free; some aren’t. Tap to select one of these themes.

  • circle-07.jpg Tap More Themes to view additional themes online. The Theme Store opens.

  • circle-08.jpg Tap a tab to view themes by type: Categories, Featured, and All.

  • circle-09.jpg Scroll to and tap the theme you want.

  • circle-10.jpg Tap either the Download or price button.

  • circle-11.jpg Samsung now downloads the theme. When the download is complete, tap Apply.

  • circle-12.jpg When prompted, tap Apply to close all open apps and apply the new theme.

  • circle-13.jpg To return to your phone’s default theme, return to the Themes screen and tap Default.

  • circle-14.jpg When prompted, tap Apply. This closes all open apps and reinstalls the original theme.
