Are you the target user for this one? Are you unfamiliar with both the basics of Facebook and it's business tools? If so, then this book will help you get up to speed. But as even the author concedes, Facebook can have its limitations and not all business tools will be available to you immediately on Facebook, depending on your business. For instance, you might need to get pre-approved by Facebook before offering certain types of deals. The author also notes that "part of the way you "win" new business through Facebook is quite challenging." But for those who persevere long enough to create a unique Facebook business ""personality - backed up with solid and error free copy, compelling images, and the right deals- Facebook can be an ideal addition to a businesse's presence in the marketplace. I was very excited when Bud Smith's Facebook for Business in 10 Minutes (SAMS Teach Yourself, 2011) became available through my Amazon Vine gig. I've wanted to get my business Facebook account going and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to do that while reviewing his book. I've been putting that task off because I expected it to take hours, but if I could really do it in ten minutes, all the better. So, book in hand, I sat down at my computer and started.Smith begins with a solid introduction to Facebook and a nice offer to explore the online edition for FREE for 45 days as part of the purchase. I know a lot about Facebook--I have a personal page--so I skimmed the overview first chapter to get to Chapter 2--Setting Up a Business-Friendly Profile Page. Turns out this chapter was mostly about getting onto Facebook, though I did learn you can't have a business Facebook page (what used to be called a 'fan page' and is now simply called 'Facebook Page'. Who forgot to... Read more

I have a small business and already have a Facebook fan page for my business. This slim book (210 pages) is intended for business owners who have never used Facebook before. The first 100 pages of the book are really just an introduction to Facebook, how to create a personal account, etc. If you have teenage children, they will probably already be experts with this stuff. The book doesn't really get into business-oriented material until the second 100 pages of the book. That's where it talks about customer updates, deals, places checkins, ads, and usage tracking. None of this material is very sophisticated, though. It is fine if you're creating a basic text-oriented business page, but they only hint about graphical or interactive pages and they never tell you how to do this on your own. For example, they never tell you how to write your own Facebook app or even where to look for more information about writing apps. In summary, this book is a basic introduction to... Read more |
