As someone who teaches classes in SEO (Google 'Jason McDonald' to find me), I get lots of questions about local search. How do I get my business to the top for a search like 'Attorney Miami?' is a common question. We're a restaurant in Los Angeles, and need to dominate 'Italian Restaurant Westwood,' is another type.Bud Smith's new book on Places is a great intro to Places - most of which I already knew... But he has some insights into labels (which can be hyperlinks), and using real-time updates (e.g., Twitter) to make your Google Places listing - come alive - where were new insights for an old dog like me. For beginners, the book is very brief, and very useful. It doesn't connect, however, connect Google Places to SEO (search engine optimization), even at a cursory level, nor does it really go into strategies for cultivating reviews.
