I consider myself to be a "power user" when it comes to Excel but I learned everything with Excel 2003. My company recently converted to Excel 2010 and I needed to learn how the software was different. This is the first time I have used a video based learning system rather than just buying an Excel textbook and I have to admit I was amazed at how much more interesting it was to learn this way. Each individual lesson is not too long so as to bore you to death but they are also not so short that it leaves you wondering where you should research next. With that being said, I watched all the lessons and found myself hardly missing a beat when it came to switching from Excel 2003 to 2010!

I chose this item in hopes that it would be a convenient package to help me tutor some friends on their Excel skills. This tutoring suite is best for beginners and intermediates who want to brush up their skills and learn more advanced skills in Excel for data analysis and manipulation. It is presented in such a way that a familiarity with the previous version (2003) would help in the understanding of the course material used, as the guy in the video refers repeatedly at length to Excel 2003. However, those who are already Excel power users might find this course slow and tedious at best and would do better searching online for relevant videos and tutorials (often free) on specific task oriented skills for Excel 2010 instead of sifting through this course for applicable material. In short, I would buy this guide for a basic-intermediate user wanting to improve their skills in the Excel 2010 version, but not for a more advanced user seeking for a quick bump-up to... Read more

All of the "video-type" software application programs I have used before were set up where you had to find the lesson title that you thought MIGHT have the exact procedure you were trying to learn how to accomplish. I watched a lot of stuff that did not stick in my mind because it was not related to the problem at hand; but I had to stay tuned because my procedure might be the very next thing the instructor was going to cover. This made for a lot of wasted time as well. However, in Power Excel with MrExcel, there is a search feature that you can use to zero in on the exact thing you want to learn. Just type your search term into the box, hit enter, and a list of lessons will appear that relate to your search. Click on the one that seems a best fit, and Shazam!, you're watching MrExcel point, click and explain how to do what you need to learn. |
