Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Using Microsoft OneNote 2010 (Paperback)
This is only my third Amazon review. I normally don't take the time to write reviews, although I do appreciate the people who do and often base my buying decisions on them.I purchased the physical (not Kindle) version of the book and purchased based on the glowing reviews by "Vine" members and the fact that a purchase would give me access to 3 hours of video content. I followed the instructions in the book to register at the Que website. I created an account and confirmed my email. I then went to the link given to access the videos. No videos. It takes me to a page to create a Que subscription for $19.99/month for 10 books or $49.99/month for all their books. I went back to check the account information to see if there was something I missed and found a "coupon code." Okay, I thought, this must give me access to the videos. I entered the coupon on the subscription page and, sure enough, "Using OneNote 2010 video content" showed... Read more

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Using Microsoft OneNote 2010 (Paperback)
A well written book covering topics for both beginners and those with more advanced skills. I have been using OneNote since it was first launched and there are many things I picked up in this book.Another reviewer mentioned the videos. While I have the paperback book, I don't think the Kindle edition would be different. In the introduction on page 3 is the link to register the book and gain access to the videos. The videos are the author doing screen casts - these are not high quality videos like Lynda.com. This is not a knock, this is just a different style but they work well. Its a nice compliment to the book and I am glad they are available as a companion to the written text. The one chapter missing from the book are tips and tricks for organization. I would like to hear about some suggestions for how to best organize my data. If you are on Windows and use Outlook, Word and such, then this book is a good investment.

Let's focus on the results. In the three weeks since I received the book, I came from being a newbie to a strong user of OneNote 2010. Not trivial, if you consider that: a) I do not have much free time to put into the effort and b) I had been struggling for over a year to find practical uses for OneNote. I had the feeling that OneNote held a valuable prize inside, but I didn't have the key to open it. Now let's go to the activities. The book starts at the very beginning, and slowly builds block by block from there. Again ... sounds trivial, but it isn't. During the first chapters I felt it was a bit too slow, but I had made my mind to read the full text in its proper order, do all the exercises and review all the videos. The book holds no surprises, no emotions. The voice in the videos is clear and precise, if a little boring too. But then, I found that I had been learning new things. By the time I closed...
